Kara Winger threw the javelin for 21 years, and collected 9 U.S. titles, 10 global championship appearances (including four Olympic berths), and set the women’s American record twice. Navigating multiple major injuries throughout her career simply reinforced Kara’s love of high-level competition, the friendly international environment of track and field, and the people she grew close to through two decades of elite performance. In 2022, her final season, she became the first American women’s javelin medalist at World Championships in a clutch silver medal effort, recorded a world-leading distance and her first personal best in 12 seasons, and earned the first Diamond League Final victory for an American javelin thrower. Kara ended her career as the #1 women’s javelin thrower on World Athletics’ rankings.
